Doctores Ecclesiae
The St. Anselm Institute for Catholic Thought cordially invites you to attend one or more of its Doctors of the Church lunches. The goal of this series is to provide a friendly setting for students and faculty from different parts of the University to meet and to discuss the life and works of the 33 Doctors of the Church. A different Doctor will serve as a focal point for each lunch.
Several UVA faculty will attend and lead each session. Prior familiarity with the Doctors is not required, but a short reading by one of the Doctors will be posted for all faculty and students participants. Regardless of your area of study or year, University of Virginia undergraduate, graduate as well as Law, Medical, and Darden School students are welcomed to attend. Space, however, is limited so reservations by individuals will be required for each session. If you are interested in participating in the next session, simply email the Institute at:

St. Michel Parish Sponsorship Appeal |

Since 2004, St. Thomas Aquinas and Holy Comforter Parishes in Charlottesville have provided assistance for the planning, building and operations of a new St. Michel Catholic school in Saltadere, Haiti. The new school was dedicated in February 2007, but the need for assistance persists as nearly 500 students are now educated, fed and cared for there each day. Several individuals from both parishes and University of Virginia have traveled to Saltadere recently and they can speak with great authority about the human needs and ongoing good works at St. Michel, including one of our own faculty members, Kate Burke from the Drama Department. Please do not hesitate to contact Professor Burke or the Haiti Ministry Committee (

The St. Anselm Institute for Catholic Thought initiated a new lunchtime reading and discussion series for faculty and students in the Fall 2008. This faculty-student lunch seminar typically meets in one of Mr. Jefferson's private upstairs rooms in Hotel E, conveniently located on the West Range, near Garrett Hall. Space is limited, so reservations by individuals are required for each session. The topic of each lunch is the life and writings of one of the 33 Doctors of the Church. A rotating set of UVA faculty attend each session. A short reading assignment on the selected Doctor is posted on the St. Anselm Institute website for all faculty and student participants to download and read prior to each lunch.
